DIY Mummy Costume

Halloween is almost here! I love dressing up and creating my own Halloween costume. I am not personally very crafty. I am not that artistic and don’t have costume making skills such as sewing. But still every Halloween, I find myself finding the tiny creative bone I do have in my body and making my own costume.

Last year, I was a mummy! It was so simple and easy but turned out amazing! I wanted to share how to create this look in case you are looking for an easy homemade Halloween costume this year.

What you will need:

  • This Medical Gauze that you can wrap around yourself

  • White spandex shorts or whatever white clothing you are most comfortable wearing underneath the gauze

  • Tape

  • Charcoal

  • Pale foundation and whatever other makeup you want to use to create this look

How to Get the Look:

  1. Start by doing your makeup. I bought a very pale foundation to look “dead” and did very heavy dark eyeshadow and extra long fake lashes.

  2. Once your makeup is done move on to the outfit. I wore a white tube top and white spandex shorts for underneath the gauze.

  3. Wrap yourself in the gauze. You will have to play around with this a bit to get the look you want. Use medical tape or two sided wardrobe tape to secure the gauze how you like it. I created more of a “two-piece” look and wrapped additional gauze around my neck and one leg.

  4. Take the charcoal and wipe it on the gauze to create the look you want. I did this step last minute because it can make quite a mess.

Tip: Practice a brief version of the costume before Halloween. Then on the night of, wait until your almost ready to leave the house to create the gauze costume. The downfall of this look is that the gauze was temperamental and would move around as the night went on. So having it on the least amount of time before leaving the house was ideal. Every time, I went to the bathroom, I had to readjust the whole bottom half of the gauze. So be warned! Overall, I it did hold up fairly well and I loved the look!

So there you have it! A spooky, inexpensive, and fairly simple Halloween look! I hope you enjoy!

XOXO,

Chelsey
